  1. GB and Himalayan Darshan Treks organized a group of nine friends from New Zealand, USA and Australia on a wonderful, varied and memorable adventure, that included trekking, wildlife viewing, hot pools, authentic food, clean accommodation and excellent information. GB was our guide throughout our time in Nepal. He provided clear emails in the planning stage so that we were all clear about accommodation, transport, itinerary and costs. From the moment he met us at the airport until delivered back there again after three weeks of a thought provoking experience, he was kind, thoughtful and an excellent communicator. For the Annapurna Base Camp trek he had arranged caring porters who fitted into the group, accommodation at the tea houses, all food requirements and answers to the many questions. Most importantly he kept us safe at all times, kept us away from avalanches, and helpful to our mainly over sixties group.
I recommend Gyan Katuwal (GB) and Himalaya Darshan Treks very highly for their excellent organization, communication and kindness.

  2. I have had the pleasure of having Gyan as my guide on three separate treks in Nepal. My first trek with Gyan was to Annapurna Base Camp in 2010. It was the first time I ever traveled alone, so I, and my very worried parents, were very meticulous when it came to finding a good guide. Gyan came very highly recommended and his service surpassed all of my expectations! Despite the fact that I only hired him to be my guide, on the third day of the hike when I got sick (I think from bad nak cheese..), Gyan insisted on carrying my backpack. I hadn’t even told him that I wasn’t feeling well. He then continued to carry my pack for the rest of the hike!
I was so impressed by Gyan’s kindness, dedication, and knowledge, that I have never considered trekking with any other guide. He goes above and beyond, every step of the way. Before any trek, he plans a detailed itinerary of the trek, makes all the changes I request for, and tries to keep the trek within my budget. During the treks, he always makes sure that I am safe, well fed, and well informed without being overbearing. And, after the treks, Gyan never fails to wish me goodbye at the end of the trip.
I have many fond memories trekking with Gyan and I highly recommend him to all my friends, family, and anyone I meet who is planning a trek in Nepal. Over the years, Gyan has not only become my “go to guide”, but also a good friend. A trek in Nepal would not be the same without him as a guide!

  3. I went on my first trek with GB in mid March with a group of friends. We were in age a bit older ranging from 55-68 and he put together a special tour package accommodating our needs from airport pick up to airport drop off. It included nearly every possible requirement from in country travel (car, van, bus, plane, elephant) and permits to Chitwan National Park as well as for the Annapurna Sanctuary route. We toured Kathmandu and took in the sights at our own pace, got far closer on foot to a rhino than I’d every imagined.and waded a shallow river with crocodiles. Then trekked as close as we could get to ABC (both camps and the high passes were closed due to late spring snows and a high avalanche risk) then GB suggested the hot springs! He had to trek ahead of us to make reservations at the teahouse and always got us lovely places to stay…sometimes even with hot water, lol.. And always with delicious food, friendly hosts and the ever present masala tea (yum). One evening we watched the local ladies perform traditional dances and then joined in for a fun twist (literally and figuratively). He arranged a stay at an organic coffee cooperative where we sipped coffee under a canopy and watched all the different local birds. I came the furthest (from Colorado) and though it was a long way there….it was worth every minute. GB and his brother Dilli especially watched over those of us who needed a little extra help. Honestly, he went above and beyond in so many ways I can’t even begin to count them. It was a life changing experience for me and I hope to return as a volunteer in the future. This was not on my bucket list…but it’s on my return list.
