Flight Information to /from Lukla: Due to the Kathmandu airport overcrowding, Flights to Lukla (Everest Region) depart from Manthali Airport (Ramechhap) for the busiest season. The distance from Kathmandu to Mathali airport is about 130 kilometers. So it takes about 3.5 to 4 hours to drive. We leave Kathmandu at 1 or 1.30 AM to catch our early morning flights from Ramechhap to Lukla.
Note: The flight will depart from March 15 to May 15 and October to November. However, it depends on the decision of the airlines and the civil aviation authority of Nepal.
Lukla Flight Weight limitation: The airlines have a weight limitation of only 15 kilograms (about 33 pounds) per person so please try to make your luggage less than 15 kilograms. Otherwise, you have to pay extra money but it is only possible if there is no overweight on the plane. So, the best option is to make your bag light
The bad weather conditions and over traffic in Kathmandu airports are the main reasons for delaying or canceling flights. The weather in hilly and Himalayan regions will be changed so quickly. So, We at Himalaya Darshan Treks highly recommend managing a minimum of 1 or 2 extra days for Everest and Dolpo region treks. If you have limited time and don’t like to change/cancel your trek to EBC, you fly to Lukla by helicopter. It is another option for you. But the flight cost by helicopter is expensive. So you have to be prepared mentally.

Our trek begins in the morning with a crossing of the Dudh Kosi River, passing through the charming villages of Toktok, Bhenkar, and Monjo before arriving at the Sagarmatha National Park entrance gate. We then trek for a few hours along the riverbank and cross our final bridge before a steep uphill trek to Namche Bazaar. Namche is home to various excellent restaurants, pubs, a computer café, a post office, and banks.
This is your Excruciation day. After breakfast, you can hike to Everest View Hotel. From there you can enjoy seeing breathtaking views of Mt Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Amadablam. Likewise, many other beautiful mountain peaks in the Everest Himalayan range. You also can enjoy wild animals, birds and many more. After breakfast in Namche, we begin our journey to Tengboche, with spectacular views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and a close-up glimpse of Thamserku. Our walk to Tengboche has a few ups and downs and beautiful Himalayan views. Tengboche is home to the Khumbu region’s largest Buddhist monastery.
The ideal time to see Tengboche’s magnificent monastery is on a clear morning. This is an excellent opportunity to use your camera! We then continue our climb on the top trail, taking advantage of the views to see the ancient monastery, before passing past various Chortens and Mani walls and several tiny settlements to reach Dingboche
After breakfast, any simple trek will take us to Dugla, where we will cross the Khumbu Glacier’s steep moraine. After crossing the glazier, we approach Chupki Lhara along boulder-strewn slopes, passing an array of stones with prayer flags as memorials to mountaineers. We can see Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori, Mahalangur Himal, and other major Himalayan peaks from there.
The trail to Gorakshep winds its way across the Khumbu Glacier’s moraine, past the pyramid marker. We soon obtain views of Mt. Today is a remarkable day, and it represents the pinnacle of our trip. The stunning views from Kala Patthar of the new day and the light shining on Mount Everest are best seen early in the morning. Before embarking on our journey, we must be prepared for the dark and chilly conditions (-10 to -14 Degrees C). We then return to Gorakshep for breakfast before making our way to Pheriche for a well-earned night’s rest.
The trail then enters the Dudh Koshi gorge, descending steeply through the pine forests after crossing the prayer flag-draped bridge at Phungitenga. After that heading up to Sanasa, the region’s primary trail junction is reached at the end of the walk. While traveling through the forest, we should look for wild animals such as mountain goats, snow leopards, colorful pheasants, and other species. We arrive at the army camp at Namche Bazaar after passing via Chorten.
The trail begins with a steep fall that requires us to take each step carefully across uneven terrain. Over the Dudh Koshi and its tributaries, we traverse multiple suspension bridges. The trail then flattens out and becomes more manageable. Fresh mountain air fills your lungs, preparing you for the journey ahead. When we arrive in Lukla, we stretch our tired legs and reflect on the previous few weeks as we come to the end of our journey, full of great memories and delight, with everyone safe and sound and with a smile on their face!
