EBC Trek Best Time

The weather and climatic conditions greatly influence the success and overall experience of the Everest Base Camp Trek. The ideal time to embark on this adventure is during the pre-monsoon and post-monsoon seasons.

  • Pre-Monsoon Season (March to May): This period, also known as the spring season, offers clear skies, warmer temperatures, and stunning views of the surrounding peaks. The rhododendron forests along the trail are in full bloom, adding a vibrant touch to the journey. Trekkers can expect moderate temperatures during the day, ranging from 10 to 20 degrees Celsius (50 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit), making it pleasant for walking. However, this season can be busier with more trekkers on the trail.
  • Post-Monsoon Season (September to November): Considered the best time for the Everest Base Camp Trek, the post-monsoon season provides stable weather conditions and excellent visibility. The monsoon rains have washed away the dust and cleared the atmosphere, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayas. The temperatures during this time range from 5 to 15 degrees Celsius (41 to 59 degrees Fahrenheit). The trails are less crowded, allowing for a more serene and intimate experience with nature.

Difficulty Level:

The Everest Base Camp Trek is considered a moderately difficult trek. While it does not require technical climbing skills or prior mountaineering experience, it does demand a good level of physical fitness and mental determination. Trekkers will encounter steep ascents, rocky trails, and high altitudes, which can be physically and mentally challenging.

The trek can last for about 12-14 days, covering a distance of approximately 130 kilometers (80 miles), with daily walking durations of 5-7 hours. Acclimatization is crucial during the trek to minimize the risk of altitude sickness. Therefore, it is recommended to engage in regular exercise and cardiovascular training before attempting the Everest Base Camp Trek.

Lukla Flight Information

Flight Information to /from Lukla: Due to the Kathmandu airport overcrowding, Flights to Lukla (Everest Region) depart from Manthali Airport (Ramechhap) for the busiest season. The distance from Kathmandu to Mathali airport is about 130 kilometers. So it takes about 3.5 to 4 hours to drive. We leave Kathmandu at 1 or 1.30 AM to catch our early morning flight to Lukla.

Note: The flight will be departing from March 15 to May 15 and October to November. However, it depends on the decision of the airlines and the civil aviation authority of Nepal.

Lukla Flight Delay or Cancellations

The bad weather conditions and over traffic in Kathmandu airports are the main reasons for delaying and canceling flights. The weather in hilly and Himalayan regions will be changed so quickly. So, We at Himalaya Darshan Treks highly recommend managing a minimum of 1 or 2 extra days for your Everest and Dolpo region treks.

What is the Lukla Flight Weight limitation?

The airlines have a weight limitation of only 15 kilograms (about 33 pounds) per person so please try to make your luggage less than 15 kilograms. Otherwise, you have to pay extra money but it is only possible if there is no overweight on the plane. So, the best option is to make your bag light.

  1. I went for the EBC 12 day’s trip with Gyan in April 2024.
Everything went so smoothly, from the welcoming in Kathmandu, van to airport, beautiful trek and return to the city. Gyan did well take care of me and I enjoyed very much his stories along the way while trekking, our cups of tea together. Everything was well organized; Gyan is a man of his words and of trust! Thanks so much and I hope to be back in few years of a new trip in this beautiful country and mountains!
