1 ReviewThe Gokyo Chola Pass Trek is a popular and adventurous trekking route in the Everest region. It combines the beautiful scenery of the Gokyo Valley, Gokyo Lake, and the breathtaking view from Everest Base Camp. This trek is a similar alternative to the classic Everest Base Camp trek, offering a unique and adventurous experience for trekkers.
The journey commences with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, the Trek’s gateway to the Everest region.
From Lukla, you begin your journey, passing quaint Sherpa villages and lush forests and crossing suspension bridges over rumbling rivers. The trail ascends gradually, allowing you to acclimate to the altitude. The length of the Gokyo Chola Pass EBC Trek can vary depending on the specific itinerary and side trips taken along the way. On average, the trek can be completed in about 14 to 16 days.
The trek also includes crossing the adventurous Cho La Pass, which sits at an altitude of 5,420 meters (17,782 feet). The pass is known for its steep and icy slopes, requiring good physical and climbing ability. However, the rewards are a beautiful view of the surrounding peaks and the ability to conquer a high mountain.
During the trek, you will be surrounded by the unique Sherpa culture and hospitality. You can interact with friendly locals, visit ancient monasteries, and learn about the Sherpa’s lives.
The Chola Pass EBC ( Everest Base Camp ) trek is a challenging adventure that combines two popular trekking routes in the Everest region of Nepal. This trek will take you through stunning landscapes, remote villages, and high passes, offering breathtaking views of the mighty Mountains.
The trek embarks in Lukla, a small town in the Khumbu region, and follows the classic EBC route to the base camp of Mount Everest. Along the way, you will pass by beautiful Sherpa villages such as Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, and Gorak Shep.
One of the main highlights of this trek is going through the Chola Pass and Hike to EBC. Located at an elevation of 5,420 meters (17,782 feet), the pass offers a thrilling and adventurous experience. Another highlight of the Chola Pass EBC Trek is witnessing the breathtaking Khumbu Icefall. This magnificent and treacherous glacier showcases nature’s raw power and beauty from the base camp.
The best times to do the Gokyo Chola Pass Trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) when the weather is favorable with clear skies and great views. However, it is essential to prepare well with the right climbing equipment, clothing, and a good level of fitness.
The Gokyo Chola Pass trek is considered to be a moderate to challenging trek in the Everest region. The difficulty level can vary depending on factors such as weather conditions, trekking seasons, your level of fitness, and previous trekking experience. Of course, it is an adventurous trekking trail in Khumbu. The Chola Pass 5420m is one pass of three high passes trek in Everest.
Flight Information to /from Lukla: Due to the Kathmandu airport overcrowding, Flights to Lukla (Everest Region) depart from Ramechhap Airport for the busiest season. The distance from Kathmandu to Ramechhap airport is about 130 kilometers. So it takes about 3.5 to 4 hours to drive. We leave Kathmandu at 1 or 1.30 AM to catch our early morning flights from Manthali to Lukla.
Note: The flight will be departing from March 15 to May 15 and October to November. However, it depends on the decision of the airlines and the civil aviation authority of Nepal.
The bad weather conditions and over traffic in Kathmandu airports are the main reasons for delaying and canceling flights. The weather in hilly and Himalayan regions will be changed so quickly. So, We at Himalaya Darshan Treks highly recommend managing a minimum of 1 or 2 extra days for your Everest and Dolpo region treks.
The airlines have a weight limitation of only 15 kilograms (about 33 pounds) per person so please try to make your luggage less than 15 kilograms. Otherwise, you have to pay extra money but it is only possible if there is no overweight on the plane. So, the best option is to make your bag light.
In conclusion, the Gokyo Chola Pass Trek is an extraordinary adventure that combines the natural beauty of the Gokyo Valley, the thrill of passing the Chola Pass, and the iconic experience of going to Everest Base Camp. It is a trek that provides you with unforgettable memories and a deep appreciation for the mighty Himalayas.

The journey was amazing and a memory that lasts forever—Everest base camp, Cho La Pass, and Renjo La Pass. The company owner Gyan was always available and supportive. My guide Bhim was kind, supportive, and positive. I did want to skip one of the passes, but he gave me supportive feedback and trusted that I could do it. It was a rich experience with exposure to tea houses, culture, food, and amazing landscapes. Walking through memorial areas of mountaineer from various parts of the world were transitioned to another world from where their love and compassion existed in the heart of the Himalayan mountain. The beauty of Himalayan warms your heart and is humbling in every aspect.
Deri Dondeh baht for such a beautiful experience.
