Tilicho Lake Short Trek

Tilicho Lake Short Trek is a magnificent trekking route in the Annapurna Region. At an altitude of 4,920m, it is the highest lake in the region. It is located in the Manang district in the Annapurna Conservation Area. Tilicho Lake is also a famous pilgrimage site, so many pilgrims visit it.

We offer this beautiful trek to fulfill your dreams of the Himalayas and trekking to the highest lake in Nepal. Tilicho Lake Short Trek Route

The trek starts from Jagat (a Small and beautiful place) after a 5/6 hour drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar. Then again 4/5 hour drive from Besisahar to Dharapani is 1,860m. The next morning, your walking starts on the classic trekking route of the Annapurna Circuit Trek.

It goes along the Marsyangdi River Valley and passes through the beautiful village of Dharapani. Likewise, Trekking through Chame, Upper Pisang, Ghyaru, Ngawal, Manang, and Khangsar villages. Then we will reach our final destination from the Tilicho base camp.

Tilicho Lake Trek Difficulty

The Tilicho Lake trek is moderate to challenging. The trail is rough and narrow, and some parts are slippery and icy, so trekking during the winter and monsoon seasons is more challenging. It is also challenging due to the high altitude. The Tilicho Lake Altitude is 4,920 meters. You have to be physically and mentally fit for this trek. We offer two types of packages for the trek to Tilicho: the first one, Tilicho Short Trek, and the second one, Tilicho Lake with Thorong La pass. You can choose your suitable for you.

Best Time to Tilicho Lake Short Trek

The best time to visit the Tilicho Lake trek is the Autumn season (September to November) and Spring season (March to May). These months are best for trekking and hiking. Monsoon and winter months are not very well for this trek due to the mud and ice. You can fully enjoy your holiday from this highest-altitude lake and the mind-blowing Himalayan vistas, flora, and fauna of this trekking route.

Food and Accommodation during the Trek

Accommodations: There are comfortable teahouses available during the trek. Most of the guest houses along the trek have private rooms with private bathrooms, but in some places are possible only shared bathrooms. In the peak season, there are big crowds, so no guarantee that all the places have good accommodations. Mainly, after the Manang.

Food and Drink: Teahouses offer a variety of meals during the trek route. Including typical Nepali food like dal bhat, there are many options to choose from the food by menu like pizza, burger, pasta, noodles, and pancake. For drinking water, we highly recommend bringing good water bottles and water purification tablets or filters for safe drinking water.

How long does it take to reach the Tilicho Lake trek?

Normally, the Tilicho Lake trek is a 7 to 12-day trek, but it depends on your chosen trek route. We, Himalaya Darshan Treks, offer 11 days of Tilicho Lake trek and 16 days of Tilicho Lake trek with Annapurna Circuit Trek (Thorong La Pass 5416m). We can make this trek shorter and longer, too. According to your holiday time and interest.

Which season is best for Tilicho Lake?

The best season for your Tilicho Lake trek is during the pre-monsoon (March to May) and post-monsoon (September to November). These months, the weather is clear and you can enjoy the incredible mountain and surrounding views.

Do I need a permit for the Tilicho Lake Trek?

Of course, you need two permits: 1, a TIMS Card (Trekkers Information Management System) and 2, an Annapurna conservation entry permit (ACAP). With this permit, you are allowed to visit the Tilicho Lake trek.

How much does the permit cost?

The cost for permits is the TIMS Card costs NRs 2000 per person, and the ACAP entry permit costs NRs 3000 per person per entry.

Do I get altitude sickness on the Tilicho Lake Trek?

Might be, when you do you’re trekking above 3000 meters. There will be high chances of altitude sickness.  So always be aware of the risks of Altitude Sickness. Follow the necessary precautions such as walking slowly, acclimatization, and staying hydrated (Drinking enough water). It plays a big role in the success of your trek.

What about Internet and phone connectivity?

Internet and phone connectivity are available during the trek. Most of the guest houses provide internet service, but you have to pay, and just a few places are free too. So you can buy a local SIM card with data for additional options. But it is also not working in all the places.

Itinerary


Day 1, Arrival in Kathmandu Airport (1,400m) and transfer to hotel

We, Himalaya Darshan Treks heartily welcome you and your group to Nepal. One of our company staff will take you to your hotel in Kathmandu. The person will be waiting outside the baggage hall of the Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu, holding an A4-size paper with your name and our company name. So, you have to look for that person for your pick up from the airport. Your check-in at the hotel.

Day 2, Trek to Dharapani (1,860m).

Your guide pick you up from your hotel to the bus station (Gongabu) for drive to Besisahar. Which is nice and scenic drive through the Prithivi highway to dumre. From here we will drive different road to Besisahar. We will stop here for a short break and some drinks. Then we will take a jeep drive to Dharapani village, where we’ll spend the night.

Day 3, Trek to Chame (2,670m).

Bagarchhap is about an hour’s walk from Dharapani. This lovely village may see the first glimpse of Mt. Annapurna II. On this day, you will pass through a few steep forested landscapes and multiple landslides; nonetheless, keep your eyes out for some spectacular views of prominent Himalayan peaks.

On your way to Chame on this day, you’ll pass through some traditional Tibetan villages (2670m). Chame is Manang’s district headquarters and one of the most picturesque Himalayan settlements, with near views of Mt. Lamjung and Annapurna II.

Day 4, Trek to Upper Pisang (3,300m).

Another beautiful stroll through a narrow, steep trail that follows the river bank will lead you to the settlement of Bratang, where you can stop for tea. After that, we followed the forested walk and rough trails for an hour before crossing the suspension bridge and arriving at Dhukur Pokhari for lunch.

This little village will see the first view of Pisang Peak and the surrounding Himalayan peaks. After lunch, we’ll walk for an hour to reach our next destination, Pisang Hamlet.

Day 5, Trek to Manang (3,540m)

Today we travel through the drier upper route, which is shielded from the monsoon’s full force by the Annapurna Range. For a portion of the year, the people of this region herd yaks and grow vegetables.

The trail continues from Mungji to adjacent Manang, passing through the scenic but largely hidden settlement of Braga (3475m).

Day 6, Acclimatization Day.

In Manang, we spent the day acclimating. We spent the entire day doing beautiful day hikes and marveling at the breathtaking vistas around the village; daytime is the optimum time to gain altitude.

The charming community of roughly 500 flat-roofed dwellings is nestled amid some outstanding landscapes – Annapurna II, Annapurna III (7555m), Gangapurna (7454m) to the south, Tilicho (7132m), and the Grand Barrier to the west, and Chulu West (6583m) and Chulu East (6059m) to the north. We return to our lodging and retire for the night at the end of the day.

Day 7, Trek to Siri Kharka (Shiri Chaur) (3,860m).

From the Manang village, the trail leads us to a different valley. We left the popular Annapurna circuit trekking trail from here. We’ll continue on a nice level track until we reach the Marsyangdi River, then ascend to Shree Khark (3,860m) after crossing the river and passing through the Khangsar hamlet. Along the trip, you’ll get the opportunity to see some stunning countryside.

Day 8, Trek to Tilicho Base Camp (4,150m).

The trail leads to a higher region in Tilicho Lake after Shree Kharka. The trail is narrow as it passes through a landside area, with a few downhill sections and a gentle zigzag ascent as it approaches Tilicho Base Camp. During the walking session, you will be able to see Tilicho Peak, Gangapurna, and other beautiful mountains.

Day 9, Hike to Tilicho Lake (4,920m) Trek back to Khangsar (3,760m).

Today is a long, challenging day but it is a wonderful day for this trip. so we have to start walking early in the morning, the trail is heading up to Tilicho Lake (4,920m). The highest-altitude lake in the world. You will fully enjoy your holiday seeing this beautiful lake. in this altitude. Then trek descend to Khangsar Village.

Day 10, Drive to Besisahar by Jeep.

After breakfast, we will take a drive to reach Besisahar by jeep. It will be private or public (it depends on your package).

Day 11, Drive to Kathmandu.

We will drive back to Kathmandu or drive to Pokhara or Chitwan (It depends on your holiday time and interest) by tourist bus and transfer to hotel.
